It's hard to believe that Janice Avery was crying in the girls' room. Imagine the school bully, sitting on a toilet seat crying. How would that seem? Yeah, it's unbelievable but it is a fact. Feeling responsible, I told Leslie to go into the toilet to find out what happened. Turned out that Janice's father beats her. Janice got so mad that she told her friends, Wilma and Bobby Sue, about it. If they are considered friends, that is. They spread it all over the school, and even the teacher knows about it. There was also a rule which Janice had broken, and that was that nobody could mix their personal problems with school. Well, Leslie advised her to pretend that the story about her father was not true and everyone would forget about it. Surprisingly, they became friends. The smartest girl and the school bully. Wow.
May Belle made a confession to me at night that she followed me and Leslie to Terabithia, although she did not know it was called that and still does not. I forced her to swear that she would not tell Mom. Never. Ever.
